Downtown Bethlehem Association

Event Planning and Marketing Intern Spring 2017

The Downtown Bethlehem Association (DBA) is the branch of the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce that manages, organizes, and runs all the community events that take place in downtown Bethlehem. These events include Tunes at Twilight, Veg Fest, Summer and Winter Restaurant Week, Christmas City Village, the Holiday Cocktail Trail, the Chocolate Trail, Beth-lum Go Bragh! and Historic District Cleanup.

The first small project I did for the DBA was to write a profile story on a new business on Main St. It featured Evan Robinson, owner of 36e Fitness, a personal training location.

The biggest project that I organized and managed for this internship was an event I created called Music at the Meadery which involved student musicians on campus to come out and perform at the Colony Meadery in the Moravian Book Shop.  I held several meetings with Dave McAdoo, the owner of the Meadery, and communicated with multiple bands and performers to arrange this event. I managed to get a local big-name band called Copper Fields to come and perform. They were nominated for several awards such as the LVMA Best Song 2016 and the Outstanding Fusion Blue Grass and Outstanding Folk. Dave even helped me get the owner of Santoro’s Franks & Chili, a new hot dog joint in Bethlehem, to come out and cater for the event. Music at the Meadery ended up being a huge success.

Galvanized Internship

ENGLISH & EDITING INTERN SPRING 2016

For this internship, I worked with Jeff Csatari, executive editor of Eat This, Not That. The founder of Galvanized, Dave Zinczenko, was a Moravian College alumni who generously gave back to his alma mater and opened a satellite office in Bethlehem, Pa. Galvanized owns the nationally known health line Eat This, Not That as well as others like Best Life and the Zero Belly Diet cookbook. Students at Moravian can gain experience editing and writing for a nationally known brand and be published in Eat This, Not That magazine.

As manager of the intern group for that semester, I was given the honor of organizing and conducting an ice cream taste test to pick out the best and healthiest flavors for summer. This project involved contacting various ice cream and frozen treat companies and corresponding with them to persuade them to participate in our taste test. The length of the project took about a month between waiting to hear back from companies and answering any follow-up questions they had about the project. (pictures below)

In December 2016, Dave Zinczenko donated money to the college to open a Media Center in Reeves Library. The Media Center offers students all the latest high-tech recording equipment and state-of-the-art technology for free! From a Mac Desktop lab to a green screen and even a podcast booth, the generous gift of our alumnus and sponsor will never be forgotten. At the dedication ceremony, I was given the esteemed honor to speak about my internship with Galvanized. Read about it on the Moravian College blog here!
